Couple of years back in Nigeria music industry, precisely 2016. There was introduction of fresh sounds. Musicians offer new albums, singles and collaborations; making various sonic experiments in a bid to alter the soundscape and overall, earn the credit for introducing the sound of the year.

Nigeria’s Mr. Eazi (Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade) is a Ghanaian-based performer, Popularly known for his R&B-influenced Afro-beat sound called “Pon pon sound”.

The singer grew up in Lagos, but later relocated to Kumasi, Ghana where he studied mechanical engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The dude launched his musical career in 2012 with the single “Pipi Dance.” Later on, he later collaborated with U.K.-based DJ Juls on the track. Juls produced most of of Mr Eazi tracks. Mr Eazi released his debut mix-tape, “About to Blow”, in July 2013. This project gained an international audience following the release of the 2015 single “Skin Tight”.

In the second quarter of 2016, Wizkid (Star Boy Record Label Boss) introduced him to the world through his Star Boy imprint.

There has been a lot of controversies online when Mr Eazi claimed that Nigerian artistes are copying his style of music “pon pon” sound. This infuriated most Nigerian fans and the singer immediately openly apologized on various media platforms.

Despite Mr. Eazi being denied participation in the 2016 Ghana Music Awards. The singer was true to his sound which gained him Collaborations with top artists like Sarkodie, Lil Kesh, Burna Boy, and others.

In 2017, he released the mix-tape Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1: Accra to Lagos, which featured guest appearances by Big Lean, Tekno, Phyno, DJ Cuppy, and others. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard World Albums chart.

Now the “pon pon” song have arrived to stay in Nigeria permanently with the lights of top artists like Davido, Tekno, Runtown, Tiwa, Wizkid, Wande coal and so on, unknowingly sampling the Ghana fusion more now and often.

The rhyme arrived when the music industry is all about Club and party songs but this Ghana Fusion & mindset made the industry more and more competitive, now artists song can last for months.

Music lovers & fans all over Nigeria and abroad sample his famous tagline ‘Zagadat’ unknowingly promoting the brand. Meaning only known to the singer but ‘Zagadat’ is a form of sound logo he’d used in every beat he has ever worked on.
